Aberdeen, Scotland Hosts Exhilarating Day 2 of Rogue Invitational 2023
The Rogue Invitational strongman competition continued its second day of captivating action in Aberdeen, Scotland, as the athletes took on a series of unique challenges at the P&P Live venue.
Following a grueling Day 1 that saw the competitors tackle heavy back squats, the stage was set for some speciality movements on Saturday. The log bar muscle-ups and the iconic Cyr Bell were among the implements that tested the athletes’ strength and technique.
Veteran experience proved crucial, as seasoned Rogue Invitational competitors like Justin Medeiros and Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr showcased their mastery of the log bar, performing efficient single reps and maximizing their transition times. This savvy approach highlighted the value of prior experience in navigating the specialized events.
The day was not without its dramatic moments, however. In the fan-favorite “The Duel” event, both Gabriela Migała and Henrik Haapalainen suffered notable injuries during the hay bale jumping challenge. Migała, who was in second place overall, sustained an apparent left leg injury, while Haapalainen suffered what he later reported as an Achilles tendon rupture.
“In response to the incidents, the organizers adapted the event, replacing the hay bale jumps with burpee up-and-overs to minimize the stress on the athletes’ lower bodies. Despite these adjustments, the losses of Migała and Haapalainen were a significant blow to the competition, with both athletes unable to complete the event.”
