Nick Walker Reclaims New York Pro Crown, Punches Ticket to Mr. Olympia 2024
In a highly anticipated comeback, Nick Walker emerged victorious at the 2024 New York Pro, cementing his position as one of the top talents in the sport of bodybuilding. The 20th edition of the contest, held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, in Teaneck, NJ, saw the return of the former champion, who took the stage by storm.
Walker, who missed the 2023 Mr. Olympia due to a hamstring injury, was determined to secure his qualification for the prestigious event. With 20 athletes vying for the title, Walker managed to outshine the competition, including runner-up Martin Fitzwater and third-place finisher Tonio Burton, the 2023 champion.
The judges’ decision was close, with only one point separating Walker and Fitzwater after the prejudging round. This set the stage for an electrifying finals, where Walker’s flawless posing and impressive physique ultimately earned him the victory and the coveted New York Pro championship ring.
By winning the New York Pro, Walker has now joined an elite group of bodybuilders, including Kai Greene, Mamdouh “Big Ramy” Elssbiay, and Juan Morel, as a two-time champion of the event. This was also his third professional win, having previously won the 2021 Arnold Classic in Columbus, OH.
The New Jersey native, surrounded by family and friends, couldn’t hide his excitement in the post-show interview, expressing his joy at reclaiming the title and securing his spot at the 2024 Mr. Olympia, set to take place at Resorts World in Las Vegas, NV, on the weekend of Oct. 10-13, 2024.
Walker’s focus now shifts to the prestigious Mr. Olympia, where he will be making his third appearance. After a fifth-place finish in 2021 and a bronze medal in 2022, he was considered a favorite to take the title in 2023 before the hamstring injury forced him to withdraw. This year, he will be determined to make his mark and claim the coveted Sandow Trophy.
Fans at the 2024 Pittsburgh Pro on May 11, 2024, were treated to a guest-posing exhibition featuring the New York Pro champion and a new challenger, whetting their appetite for the main event in Las Vegas.
